Who Can Qualify for the Naturalization process or direct citizenship?

There are a variety of cases that can lead to simplified processes to naturalize. Below lists the situations to the naturalization pathway. 

  • LPR (Green Card Holder) to U.S. Citizenship ​

  • Spouse, married to an U.S. Citizen, after three years of permanent residency and marriage can apply for naturalization

  • Children of U.S. Citizen parents but born outside of the U.S. may already be U.S. citizens or become citizens through a simplified process

  • Derivative Citizenship, a child may automatically become a citizen if their parent naturalizes and conditions are met 

 

Am I eligible to become an U.S. Citizen?

You must meet all of the following requirements: 

  • Lived in the U.S. as a permanent resident for 5 years, if spouse of U.S. citizen for 3 years

  • Good Moral Character (Don't commit certain crimes)

  • Military and Civil Service Registration (If under the age of 31)

  • English Proficiency and Civics Knowledge (click here for exceptions)
